Walk With A Doc was started in 2005 by Dr. David Sabgir, a cardiologist in Columbus, Ohio.

Frustrated with his inability to affect behavior change in the clinical setting, Dr. Sabgir invited his patients to go for a walk with him in a local park on a spring Saturday morning.

Physical activity is done a lot for me and my life. And, you know, I imagine we’ll get to this as far as, you know, the benefits and really transform the way I would go through my days and how I felt. And I really wanted every one that I came across in the office at least to be able to experience that same joy.

To his surprise, over 100 people showed up, energized and ready to move.

Since that first event in 2005, Walk With A Doc has grown as a grassroots effort with a model based on sustainability and simplicity.

Walk With A Doc is made up of health care professionals and walk warriors around the globe who are driven by an earnest belief that walking is the miracle drug destined to change the world. It’s a great statement and one that we think so many of us are trying to meet.

The reach of Walk With A Doc now extends all around the globe with over 500 chapters worldwide, including Walk with a Future Doc chapters led by medical students!

We had a great conversation with Dr. Sabgir about Walk With A Doc, and his amazement of the growth worldwide. He also offers up some very specific positive physical and mental changes that can happen to all of us when we start walking.

If you may remember, last year we had our wonderful friend, Orelle Jackson, President of Limitless Growth Strategies, come in and talk to us about crises, how to deal with crises.

And in our conversations, she mentioned an organization called Walk With A Doc.

She then conned Carol into a fundraiser that they were having, which was actually a virtual walk through Kilimanjaro. It was great fun because Carol not only could walk, she could rake leaves to get her miles in.

Then just recently, they finished a walk in the Grand Canyon. Orelle and Carol were a team, so it’s much easier to do it as two as opposed to one.

So we connected with the founder, CEO, director of the walk (and an all around great guy), Dr. David Sabga. We wanted to get more information on the backstory of the walk.
